Ideas for the layout and design of a tropical island resort in a text-based game.

Curious how I’d design a futuristic resort island for a sci-fi MU*? This guide was written in response to a supporter’s request, and as a thank-you, the full version is shared with those helping to keep Writing Games going.

Here’s a quick overview of what’s covered:

  • A layout that encourages exploration and immersion
  • Key locations to consider beyond the obvious
  • How to create a map that doesn’t feel “flat”
  • Tips for balancing accessibility, atmosphere, and player flow

By Supporter request, I've put together a walkthrough on how I would approach the layout and design of a tropical island resort for a futuristic sci-fi MU*.

The suggested layout features a Central Hub that connects the resort hotel to various public activities (shopping, swimming, hiking, snorkeling, etc.) that might interest players. It also includes some areas that are more private and secluded.
